In an on-going effort to be responsive to the needs of professionals in the field of child welfare, the Children's Alliance has developed three online courses intended primarily for our target audience of foster/adoptive parents and residential childcare workers and supervisors. These courses are designed to meet licensing requirements in Kansas, but are also useful to a wide variety of individuals who work with children and youth around the country. The three courses are:

These courses are high quality Offerings with online instructors who are available to guide the participants through the completion of the course requirements. Audio, video, graphics and written text are incorporated into the courses. Students will be required to respond to discussion questions online and interact with others enrolled in the class. The following are recommended computer specifications for those considering enrollment in the online courses:

Hardware: 100 megahertz computer processor (200 or greater recommended); 32 megabytes RAM (64 or greater recommended); 28.8 bps modem (LAN, DSL, or other high speed connection recommended)

Operating System: Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, XP

Software: Netscape Navigator 4.x Adobe Acrobat Reader, Windows Media Player and/or Quicktime (plug-ins provided below) and Internet Explorer 4.x or greater.

The content of each course has been developed to meet the needs of the different adult learning styles. Each first time online student is required to complete a very brief orientation prior to beginning work on the actual course they are enrolled in.

The amount of CEU credit available for each course is approximately equivalent to the projected amount of time necessary to complete the course work assigned by the instructor. The Alliance will work with the appropriate review boards in other states to obtain CEU credit as requested by out-of-state students. Our goal has been to make these Offerings as close as possible to the current clock/seat hours system, while recognizing that these courses are more closely related to a college credit system.
