Children Removed into Out-of-Home Placement by Primary Removal Reason
The most frequent abuse/neglect reason for removal into foster care is "Physical Abuse."

Children in Out-of-Home by Placement Setting
Statewide, 36.01% of children are placed with relatives.  Statewide, 8.526% are placed in group or residential care. 

Children in Out of Home by Permanency Goal
Statewide, 56.34% of children in out of home placement have a goal of reunification. 

Children in Out of Home by Age and Gender
Children 10 and over comprise the largest age group of children in out of home placement (52.33%).

Length of Stay and Reason for Ending Out of Home Placement
The average length of time in placement for children who have exited care in 2023 is 23.3 months.

Children’s Bureau Child Welfare Outcomes Report Data
Child Welfare Outcomes is an annual Report to Congress published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It provides information on state performance in seven categories of outcomes that are widely accepted performance objectives for child welfare practice. The Report also includes findings of analyses conducted on performance across states and over time.
